I started running during the summer before my freshman year of high school.  I ran cross country for 3 years in high school (had to sit out one year because of a femoral neck stress fracture) and track for 2 years. When I went to college, I stopped running quite as much, gained about 20 pounds, and drank a little bit too much beer.

I decided I wanted to get back into shape so I joined the triathlon club and fell in love with the sport.  I raced a bunch of sprint and Olympic distance triathlons and one 70.3 and had a blast doing them.

During my last year of college, I signed up for my first marathon (2005 Nike Womens, in San Francisco). I didn’t take training seriously, ran 4:41, and ended up injured. I vowed to do better for my second marathon (Portland, 2006). I ran 4:14. I took a little break from marathons for awhile, but signed up for the California International Marathon in 2008. I was surprised when I crossed the finish line in 3:47! I figured a Boston Qualifier was a long-shot, but wanted to try and run under 3:40. I missed it by 14 minutes at the 2010 LA Marathon, so I ramped up my training for the 2010 San Francisco Marathon and finished in 3:32.

I found out I was pregnant not too long after registering for the 2011 Boston Marathon, but decided to run it anyway. My dad and I ran it together in a very leisurely 4:56. It was an awesome experience! I’ve now done a total of seven marathons, and my next goal is to break 3:30.

My PRs:
5K- 20:52
5 Miles- 36:31
10K- 44:30 (unofficial training run PR of 44:00)
Half Marathon – 1:38:36
Marathon- 3:32:46
50K – 6:21:50

From June 2009-the end of 2010 I kept a separate running blog called Cate On The Run. I eventually decided to just include running stuff on this blog.
