Same same

When we were traveling in SE Asia (ohhh, I miss those days SO MUCH), there were shirts everywhere that said”Same Same” on the front, and “But Different” on the back.  I never totally figured out what that meant, but a lot of the street vendors said “same same” when they were trying to sell things.

How does this tie in to anything in my life right now?  Well for starters, I really REALLY wish I could drop everything and go backpack around Cambodia again.  I feel like I’m in a little bit of a weird rut right now.  There are 12 teaching days left in this school year, and the kids are getting a little crazy.  I’ve also been slacking bigtime on meal planning lately, which means we’ve ended up a lot of repeats or non blog-worthy meals.

Last night it was this divine soba with eggplant and mango and the night before it was classic comfort food: tomato soup (made from leftover pizza sauce, is that weird?), grilled cheese sandwiches, and salad with homemade ranch dressing.

I’ve been baking here and there, but nothing new.  Just these, twice in a week.

Life kind of feels up in the air at the moment, so it’s nice to have familiar recipes to turn to.  It’s also nice to have cookies. And running.  I don’t know what has gotten into me lately, but I’m NOT complaining!

I’m not entirely sure how I’ve managed to string together these runs that are so much faster than normal.  I just know that when there’s a lot on my mind, I need to run, and I need to run fast. So I do.  I’m being super careful with my mileage, though, because I know the combination of increasing distance and speed at the same time pretty much guarantees injury, and I’d prefer to avoid that.

And finally there’s this little person, who makes every day better no matter how uncertain things seem.  Love her (even when she has black beans on her face).

Oh my goodness, I had one of those shirts!! My husband went to Cambodia several times throughout his Masters Program, and wrote his thesis on air quality in SE Asia. He brought everybody back cool things, like chopsticks, but I got a red “Same Same But Different” t-shirt. It finally bit the dust last year. I’m so glad somebody else knows about these shirts…I was beginning to think he was just crazy! 🙂

Funny – I put grilled cheese on the menu for this week and got all sorts of weird looks from J. I’m going to point out that it’s a totally normal meal choice.

We’re dealing with a bit of a transition right now, so we’re also in a weird rut. Oh, life… BUT good luck with those final days of school! You’ll enjoy your break!

And gosh darn it, Ellie is so adorable! Hope to see you soon, friend!

I’m sure you have talked about running before but somehow I missed it…Maybe becasue I just started getting serious myself so I started paying attention more. What great times! I woul LOVE to run my upcoming 10k at those paces but I doubt that will happen, guess we shall see.
