Foodbuzz Festival and Kennedy Drive 8K

This weekend was the Foodbuzz Festival! Last year’s was fun, but I think I liked this year’s more.

I had the baby and a bottle ready so that as soon as Mike got home on Friday night, I could head into the city for the first festival event at Terra Gallery.

It was a ton of fun meeting new people and chatting with blog friends. The food was pretty good, too.

My favorites were the beet ravioli and lentil salad with fennel and artichoke hearts. I need to figure out how to make those!

Then there was a pretty expansive dessert spread.

Don’t worry, I tried one of each.
There was an awards ceremony, hosted by the sweet and lovely Joy and Marc from No Recipes.

Sadly almost none of the people I voted for ended up winning.

I would also like to add that I met Tracy and she’s just as awesome as you would imagine from listening to the Joy the Baker podcast, which I adore. She and Joy are hilarious and both so genuine and fun in person. Love.

Saturday I met up with some of my favorite Bay Area Bloggers (turned real-life friends) for the Tasting Pavillion.

(me, Alyssa, Courtney, Beth, and Courtney)

We ate a ton of cheese, some chocolate, tried some wine, and most importantly, were in the right place at the right time when Tyler Florence showed up to sign and give away books.

We all managed to score a free, autographed copy of his cookbook, Family Meal.

(Thanks, Beth, for taking this picture!)

Saturday night was the Gala Dinner, which might lead one to believe that the food would be outstanding. Not quite the case, but the company was good!

The vegetarian meal was a bland pile of barley and some lackluster roasted vegetables. There was, however, ample wine available!

Dessert was not a total loss…

Cheesecake, bread pudding, and chocolate mousse.

After getting home at the ridiculously late hour of 11 (what has happened to me?!) I was definitely grateful for the time change. We were up bright and early for an 8K race that started at the Polo Fields in Golden Gate Park.

It was such a nice morning (especially after the rain the night before).

The course wasn’t flat, but the hills were nice and gradual. I was hoping to run under 40 minutes, but I didn’t want to go out too fast. The first mile felt like it took forever, but once that first hill was over, I got into a nice groove.
Just past the turn around, a guy who’d been running pretty close to me said “go get that girl in the blue!” It was just the push I needed to pick up the pace a little bit.

The second half of the race was HARD. I really felt like I was pushing it, but I kept focusing on the girl in front of me. Unfortunately, I never caught up to her but having that to focus on helped me run those last two miles faster than I thought I could.

This was definitely one of those races where I felt like I left EVERYTHING out on the course.  The last mile (or .87…) felt interminable even though it was downhill, but I didn’t let myself slow down.  I didn’t look at my watch, so I had no idea I did that last part at sub-7 pace!

Apparently my Garmin somehow ended up 0.1 miles off (since 8K is 4.97 miles).  Oh well!  Another fun family race in the books.

I kind of forget sometimes there are people all over the place that read this blog…

This man (I don’t remember his name!) asked “are you Cate?” and it turns out his daughter (who lives in Montreal), reads the blog and told her dad to look for me at one of our running club races.  Small world!

So sad I didn’t get to meet you. It looks like you had a wonderful weekend, despite the bad gala veggie food. I hope we’re there together next year!

Best weekend ever, and I’m so glad that I got to meet you! You are more awesome in person, and if you figure out how to make the beet ravioli – pass that recipe along. I could have eaten a whole plate of that yummy-goodness!! Cute picture of Tyler Florence…he’s so dreamy in person – I missed out on the book, but at least I got a picture of him. Till next time! 😉

It was great meeting you at the festival, fun meeting semi-local bloggers. 🙂 Agreed on the gala dinner, not great vegan options this year. Congrats on the race!
